How Gullable are We?

Ok, here is what has been churning in my stomach today. I have been overly anxious to find an avenue to express my disgust with the present situation of our great country. No, not with the politicians that would be overly easy. I am in awe with us. That’s right US. Why you may ask. Well its quite simple. Politicians only do what we allow them to do, they are in no way shape or form held accountable for any of their actions outside of sex scandals, adultery, or outrageous comments that are made on the news or in front of a camera. I am absolutely sick of watching the news and seeing “the latest poll on (xyz) shows that 54% of Americans think (xyz). Who the hell are these people who were polled, because I can assure you that they do not represent what Americans think as a whole. For that matter, I can tell you that the polls inadvertently do give an accurate depiction of our the political atmosphere of our great union. Just not in the way that the media darlings would like for you to think. Let this swirl around in that head of yours and think about this one thing. The average American can not name his/her congressman without using google. Hell for that matter the average American probably can not even name his/her governor or mayor. It is not because we are stupid, it is simply because the average American only gives a damn about what is in front of them today or at the most to the end of the week. I am trying not to get too heavy on this “My First Blog” but these polls represent exactly the American way. A few people who are heavily into the political stage and show have their opinion represent our beliefs. While in the distant background we gripe and complain about why things are the way they are without the foggiest damn idea of how to change it or who to even hold accountable for it. We as Americans walk out of the ballot box or center with our heads held high and our chests out proudly boasting the” I voted” sticker or badge without even knowing who the hell we voted for and what they voted for or against. So I ask, if you do not know what the person you just helped elect into a public office voted for last month or what he/she supported in the last term, how can you complain about the bank bailouts or health-care or the wars or any damn thing for that matter. If all you vote for is right or left then we will never have the country we hope for and we will continue in this endless cycle of lies deceit and stupidity. Before you respond to this blog, please put yourself through this 3 part quiz. Name your elected officials (nothing too intricate just the major players for right now). If you pass that one 2. What are the major policies they are behind. (More than just health care please.) 3. Please know the pros and cons of their stance. (In other words, please do not reply with political talking points, be ready to exchange intelligent contrasting points of view) Hopefully this did not tick too many people off, I am just trying to awaken my peers even if it is one at a time.
